The problem of RSI is a problem of “peer” pressure.
The physical stresses involved in the THINKER’s posture as he peers
into HELL:
-
The pressure (stress) of peering at the computer screen leads to eye
fatigue and poor posture
-
Poor posture leads to strain of the base of the neck resulting in risk
of injury to the tissues in that region
-
Poor posture leads to chest breathing
-
Chest breathing leads to cold hands
-
Chest breathing leads to excessive load on scalene muscles
-
Chest breathing with the scalene leads to an elevated first rib
-
The elevated first rib changes the relationship between the structures
in this area causing the potential for nerve irritation and vascular congestion
The emotional stresses experienced by the THINKER as he peers into HELL:
-
Pressure from co-workers, deadlines, long hours, family obligations
-
Pressure from one’s personal drive to please oneself and others
to the exclusion of your physical health
-
These pressures lead to a sympathetic arousal(fight or flee)
-
This arousal leads to chest breathing, cold hands, increased muscle
tension, and the other symptoms mentioned above.

To my way of thinking, this famous sculpture of the THINKER by Rodin showing
Dante peering into the seven levels of HELL is a symbol for the problem of
RSI.
